Check out this fiction story by Dmitri Katsman

Submitted by Dmitri Katsman: “This is a story about a young officer of the Israeli Defense Army who gets transferred from tank school to Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada and discovers the differences between theory and practice. This story is a mixture of various events that actually happened to me and my comrades during our service inside Gaza Strip. Some elements of the story are fictional yet all the emotions are genuine and the characters are based on real people.”

Book Review: The Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry

1031132011

The Bloomsburg Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry is a book that gives insight into many Jewish themes such as Jewish culture, religion, and identity.

With works from over 100 poets born after World War II, there are many poetic voices to choose from. The book features established and newer poets such as  Ellen Bass, Charles Bersnstein, Carol V. Davis, Edward Hirsch, Jane Hirshfield, David Lehman, Jacqueline Osherow, Ira Sadoff, Philip Schultz, Alan Shapiro, Jane Shore, Judith Silkman, Melissa SteinMatthew Zapruder, and many others.

One thing that was disappointing was the lack of Jews of Color poets. Hopefully in future anthologies their voices will be included.

Overall the Bloomsburg Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry is a great read and a great addition to libraries-be it personal or public-everywhere.
